FOXY, or Fostering Open eXpression among Youth, uses art to encourage young women to talk about their sexuality and relationships. It received the $1-million Arctic Inspiration Prize in 2014.
FOXY research has shown that young men also don’t know how to talk about their feelings and about relationships but they want to
learn practical ways to communicate, including how to talk in a respectful manner.
As a result, FOXY has created, SMASH, or Strength, Masculinities, and Sexual Health, a pilot project for young men. SMASH will hold a peer leader retreat in July and begin delivering workshops in at least 10 high schools in the Northwest Territories this fall.
