On July 9 in Iqaluit this year, Nunavut Day was celebrated with a special commemoration ceremony to mark the 20 years since the birth of Nunavut.

At the Igluvut building downtown, Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. president Cathy Towtongie joined the artists to unveil the 20th anniversary 14-foot monument. The three master carvers were Inuk Charlie of Taloyoak, Paul Malliki of Repulse Bay and Looty Pijamini of Grise Fiord.

The Qikiqtaaluk Corporation in partnership with the Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. commissioned the monument and landscape garden located on their main headquarters property to recognize the 20-year anniversary of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement (NLCA).
