Ecology North has announced the launch of a resource for teachers in the Northwest Territories to bring interactive, hands-on science-based knowledge and experiences to youth across the NWT to inspire an interest in studying and pursuing science.
The project targets NWT youth in grades six to 12 by working with schools to deliver engaging environmental science programming.
Students will learn:
- Concrete local knowledge to understand how the science and technology components of the curriculum apply to their unique northern contexts, including an in-depth understanding of environmental challenges;
- Awareness of opportunities for increased individual and community sustainability and independence along with substantive skills to plan and implement discrete projects; and
- self-esteem to envision and realize personal and community goals, as well as leadership, communication and conflict resolution skills to work constructively both independently and as part of a team.
