Frequent contributor to this magazine, Quebecbased photographer, Pierre Dunnigan, spent 40 challenging but glorious days in the Kivalliq (Wager Bay, Coral Harbour and Naujat regions) providing camp support to a joint National Geographic and Arctic Bear Productions film crew.

What made this shoot particularly exciting was that the group’s cinematographers were working with the latest equipment and techniques in 3D filming below the surface of the Arctic waters and above ground using a camera equipped remote helicopter. All to be able to capture the images for an upcoming film feature starring a young polar bear in search of food over a long hot summer.

More about the upcoming film, the production process and its important climate change message will be presented in a 2012 issue of above&beyond.
