Zinc battery technology is a less expensive option than lithium batteries to store renewable energy like wind or solar. NorZinc Ltd., which owns the Prairie Creek Project in Nahanni Park, is working on this advanced-stage zinc, lead and silver mine to produce such critical minerals.

The construction of a 180-kilometre access road would help move the project toward production in 2024. The company expects it would employ about 600 workers on-site during the construction phase and about 300 to 350 people once the mine is operational.
